Opening My Eyes To A New Light

This Photo class so far has been an eye opener. After learning the simple things about photography, things like the ancient rule of thirds, or simply angling a photo in an atypical point of view, I look at the world around me in a new light. Because of this class I know that even though I am focused on an object or person , it must be made clear in the photo. The most important thing that I've learned from this class is to find what interests you and frame it. Photography represents the photographer, so when taking photos I try to put a little bit of me in the photo every time.

In my photos taken in NY on May, 6 2014 I used many elements that we have discussed in class. I find using elements that represent me better to frame. Things like light and shadow and Framing. We have learned about twenty six elements and my personality seems to stick with only a few. On the trip Most of my Photos were framed photos or had a weird abstract feel to them. In every photo I took There was a reason behind taking it. Whether it was a deep and significant meaning, or maybe it was an eye catcher.

In this photo I really wanted to get the rust pattern, But when I made an attempt to take the photo straight up , it wasn't different ; it didn't feel like me , it was to basic. These were things running thru my mind as I sized up my photo. After a while I noticed a weird abstract design along side of it . I intently thought to my self frame this and that was how this photo was born.

The reason I took this photo in black and white was because when I looked up and saw the Broadway sign I got a feeling of an old and vintage era. Although I like this photo in particular because of the black and white, I learned when taking photos you must always use color and when editing apply black and white effects.

This photo is some what simple but loud, in part because of the over use of yellow. the bus that is out of focus has a bright yellow that brings out the yellow on the yellow light. I focused on the light but positioned my shot to get the yellow bus to lead to the yellow light , and I believe that being that both objects are yellow it added affect to it.

  2. I can actually hear your thoughts with every shot! The stories behind each photo were clear and concise, well written and thought provoking. The pictures themselves are awesome, and telling their story thru your lens.. I felt the abstract moment, was looking at Broadway thru vintage eyes and the yellow light and bus was my favorite!! I loved the glimpse of the red flowers in the back ground! Great job Se'maj!!
