The best way to describe what street photography, is taking photos of things and people that you can not control. To explain more, you can not just get someone to pose for the camera, it has to be candid in nature. When involved in street photography, there are five techniques a photographer must always keep in mind for good street photos. the first is called Decisive Moment, and with this technique the photographer must have good timing, as well as good precision. The second technique is called Juxtaposition, and it would be any picture that compares something old to something new, or something very dark next to something very bright or light colored. The next is called Surrealism, and this technique involves taking pictures of things that look beyond real, or have a certain oddness that is captivating. Another one is called Image Interaction, and it involves something funny, or a photo that is interesting or clever when thought of. The last technique is Symbols, and this includes photos with no words or anything like that. Only things like arrows, lines, signs, etc.
In this photo it looks like the dog is looking at his owner in a type of disgust or as if he is showing emotion towards what his owner is wearing. I chose this picture because I believe this is a good example of a Decisive Moment. When I was looking around for something that was interesting or clever I found this dog that was constantly licking his face. It turns out when I snapped the photo i caught the dog at the exact moment that he looked to the side without moving its head. I found it extremely interesting because I did not anticipate to take this kind a picture but the precision, and timing was all there perfectly.
While doing street photography I felt an uneasy kind of feeling. There was so much going on around me I felt that I was missing a lot of perfect Juxtapositions, and Image Interactions. I eventually started taking my time, however, and started photographing what I saw, and started ignoring what I had already missed. Although it was a humid, and kind of rainy day, I still found myself enjoying the trip because of the site seeing, and all of the advertising, but as well as the company of my classmates. Although there are many cool things you can capture with street photography, I personally did not like it as much as I expected to. I guess I just need to do it more times to come to enjoy what it can offer.
