Capturing the Right Moment : The Art of Street Photography

To someone who is unfamiliar with photography they might ask "What is street photography"? Street photography is basically capturing the beauty in the mundane. The five techniques of street photography are; The Decisive Moment, Juxtaposition, Surrealism, Imagine Interaction and Symbols.

This photo is a perfect example of street photography. It captures the old man doing a very a common thing, reading. I simplified the background causing the old man to stand out.

During the assignment revolving street photography, I felt unsure as to how to approach people when taking a picture of them. I kept asking myself should I ask the person for permission or just invade their personal space and just take the photo anyways. Throughout the day I noticed that people around the city were always busy doing something whether it would be street performing, interacting with people, physical activities and even sleeping. The trip overall was a good experience even though it started to rain at different moments. Street photography is a challenge but it's something that grows on you over a certain period of time.
